I had similar problems with Zumo 550 during my trip. I completely removed the battery (need a 2 mm hex bit) and used the Zumo. Also, it appeared that Zumo’s idiosyncracies were partly a function of how long it was on. Once I got on the highway I would turn it off and turn it on again only when I was approaching my exit. That seems to help. I had also had my Zumo mounted such that I could rotate it around the pivot. This helped me pivot the Zumo away from direct sunlight, particularly when not in use.
I have to keep my Zumo on because I use it to play music. The problem hasn’t occurred again. Maybe it happened because I was stuck in the rainstorm, even though it is supposed to be waterproof.
